I've been sitting on my Vox account wondering what I was going to do with it when I had the epiphany that I really needed a blog space that I wouldn't mind sending the address out to everybody. So, Food and Fun with Kelly was born.
Last year I went to New York in July and LA in December, a trip remembered most vividly as the rental car nightmare of 2007. But I loved the Matterhorn with all my heart.
All in all I prefer New York, though. I wanted to head back there (only this time by driving instead of flying) this summer but I missed the window to get a decent hotel at a decent price.
I had the idea of hitting some hiking on my way to New York, and it is that secondary idea that has stuck with my trip's theme.
Take A Hike! 2008 will take me from northwest-central Indiana, up the western coast of Michigan State to Sleeping Bear Dunes, into Ontario, through Ottawa (I have family up there) and over to Acadia National Park. There will be stopping for sightseeing along the way.
In the Food arena I have begun to branch out more into cooking. I have always been a decent baker -- I even took 2 Wilton Cake Decorating classes in January and February of this year -- but I have never really had a passion for cooking. But I have decided to try to cultivate my cooking. For Valentines day I bought the fixings for Chicken Cordon Bleu and Mom and I ended up making it together. This weekend we will tackle that recipe again for her birthday. I'm making her a 3-tiered carrot cake to take to her workplace on Monday AND a cake for home with flowers on it. I need the practice.
I also want to make a red shrimp thai curry soon. I have everything except the curry paste. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at Thai Curry. I already have a pretty decent Orange Chicken.
Anyway this blog is going to be all about my cooking, baking and travels. Since I'm planning on doing some serious hiking this summer I need to do some serious training so I'm less likely to injure myself far away from home. I might post a bit about that too.
Ta ta for now!
